The city of Pingree Grove, IL has opted to allow golf and utility cars to be street legal. Many Pingree Grove residents own and rent golf cars for this, and other uses such as golfing, camping, hunting and other special occasion uses on private lands.

“It shall be lawful to operate golf carts on private roadways owned and maintained by a private homeowners’ association (HOA), where permitted under the rules and regulations of that HOA. Such golf carts shall comply with the following regulations:

      1.   Golf carts shall only be operated by licensed drivers.
      2.   Golf carts may be operated in any area where permitted under the HOA regulations, including but not limited to private roadways, private sidewalks or private pathways. It shall be unlawful to operate golf carts in areas where their operation is prohibited.
      3.   Golf carts shall not be operated between the hours of dusk and dawn, except where equipped with front and rear reflectors, as well as headlights and taillights which are illuminated when in operation between dusk and dawn, and which are capable of being seen from not less than five hundred (500) feet in distance.
      4.   Golf carts shall be registered with the applicable HOA, and shall have a clearly visible and prominently displayed, HOA-issued registration number. Any HOA providing such registration shall annually provide a list of registered golf carts to the Village of Pingree Grove Police Department, by May 1 of each year. Such list shall be updated from time to time as reasonably required to maintain a current record of registration with the Police Department.” Read More:

Whisper Creek Golf Course

The 18-hole Whisper Creek Golf Course is a semi-private golf course located outside of Pingree Grove, Il and has been in operation since 2000. The Whisper Creek Golf Course was designed by course architect Greg Nash and features a “prairie” like feel. Whisper Creek Golf Course is also committed to protecting the environment and is actively listed as Cooperative Sanctuary by Audubon International.
